The Easter Break

The Easter Break

In normal circumstances, Aldeburgh would be now be preparing for traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the year, welcoming visitors from near and far, who make a considerable and valued contribution to the town’s economy. However, this year is very different.

Following on from the government’s guidance on social distancing, issued on 22 March 2020 in relation to COVID-19, people should avoid travelling unless it is essential.

Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People must remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk.

In Aldeburgh, it is known that there are a small number of rental properties being occupied by key workers. However, the Town Council has received a number of complaints about houses which have only been occupied since the introduction of these guidelines. You should report your concerns to Suffolk Police, either by phoning 101 or by visiting www.suffolk.police.uk/contactus The police have informed the Town Council that they are pro-actively managing the situation by stopping people in the street, visiting houses and carrying out vehicle checks to establish if the journey is essential.

Follow the Government guidelines…… Stay Home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.
