Have your say on renewal of Public Space Protection Orders

Posted by on 23 November 2022 | Comments

Residents in East Suffolk are invited to have their say on the proposed renewal of thirteen Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) which are due to expire next year.

Twelve existing PSPOs relating to the control of dogs at locations across East Suffolk are due to expire in April 2023, with another PSPO relating to the exclusion of dogs from Felixstowe Beach due to expire in January.

All thirteen PSPOs were adopted in 2020 and are being proposed for renewal without any alteration to existing restrictions for a further three years. As well as orders relating to dog fouling, the PSPOs cover areas including Southwold beach and promenade, Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve, Lowestoft beach and promenade, Corton beach, Lound Lakes Nature Reserve, Herringfleet Hills and Charsfield Churchyard.

A consultation is now open, inviting people to give their views on the proposed renewals.

Cllr James Mallinder, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for the Environment said: “East Suffolk is a dog-friendly district, and we recognise that most dog owners are responsible about the impact their dogs can have on others and the environment. Keeping your dog on a lead means everyone, with or without a dog, can enjoy spending time in public spaces. As always, we would remind dog walkers to make sure they clear up after their dog and dispose of the waste in the nearest litter bin.”

Full details of the existing PSPOs, and details of how to comment.

The consultation closes at 5pm on 8 January 2023.
