Aldeburgh Town Council

Becoming a Councillor

Becoming a Councillor

Local councils are the oldest type of local authority in the UK, often known as the grass roots of local government, being closest to the taxpayer. They represent local people and the work of a local council can include community safety, health and well-being, planning, and local services for example.

Becoming a councillor gives residents the chance to represent the local community, deliver services to meet local needs and strive to improve the quality of life in the local area. By becoming a councillor you will gain more insights into your local community, have influence over local decisions and be in a position to help local people build a stronger identity and better future.

  • Are you passionate about your community?
  • Do you want to help make a long-lasting change?
  • Do you have innovative ideas for the council?
  • Do you have concerns about a specific issue and want to do something about it?

If this is you, then your local council needs you. They need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect their community to put themselves forward for election.

Make a change and become a councillor.
